TORONTO - Ontario's government is protecting what matters most by investing in local schools and ensuring our students have the skills they need to succeed.

The province has given Toronto District School Board approval to tender a major retrofit to Sir Sandford Fleming Public School. The $7.4 million investment will improve the learning environment for the students. This project is part of the province’s capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces.

“The funding for the retrofit to Sir Sandford Fleming Public School is great news for our community,” said Robin Martin, MPP for Eglinton-Lawrence. “This investment will provide a quality learning environment and new opportunities for the children of Toronto.”

“From modernizing our curriculum to revitalizing our classrooms and their facilities, we are investing in our students and giving them every tool to achieve their full potential,” said Education Minister Stephen Lecce. “Our financing of the retrofit to Sir Sandford Fleming Public School further demonstrates our government’s historic investment in Ontario’s schools and our overall commitment to supporting our students and families.”

Sir Sandford Fleming Public School is located at 50 Ameer Avenue, Toronto.

Highlights of the retrofit include:

· Consolidation of the Baycrest PS and child care into Sir Sandford Fleming PS

· School Condition Improvement (SCI) work will reduce the school's overall renewal need.
